About rough-joist

We specialise in making technology work seamlessly in homes and businesses across the UK. Since 2014, we've completed over 850 installations, from simple smart home setups to complex commercial network infrastructure.

Our team brings together expertise in home automation, network engineering, custom computing, and user experience design. What sets us apart is our commitment to practical solutions that genuinely improve your daily life rather than adding unnecessary complexity.

Working With Us

Initial Consultation

Most projects begin with a consultation where we discuss your needs, assess your space, and provide recommendations. For straightforward queries, this can often be handled via email. More complex projects benefit from an in-person or video meeting.

Response Times

We aim to respond to all enquiries within one business day. During busy periods this may extend to two days, but we'll acknowledge your message and provide an expected response timeframe.

Project Scheduling

Our availability varies based on current workload and the scope of your project. Smaller installations can typically be scheduled within two to three weeks, whilst larger projects may require four to six weeks lead time. We'll provide specific scheduling information after our initial consultation.

Service Area

We regularly work throughout Greater London and the surrounding counties including Hertfordshire, Essex, Surrey, and Kent. For projects outside this area, we can discuss remote consultation services or recommend trusted partners in other regions.

Common Questions

Describe what you're trying to achieve rather than focusing on specific products or technical details. Information about your property type, current technology setup (if any), and approximate budget helps us provide more relevant recommendations. If you have a timeline in mind, mention that as well.

Brief consultations via email or phone are complimentary. If you require an in-depth on-site assessment or extended consultation session, we charge our standard consultation rate, which is credited towards your project if you proceed with us.

We can connect you with previous clients who have agreed to serve as references. We respect client privacy, so we only share contact details with explicit permission from both parties.

That's perfectly normal and exactly why consultation services exist. Explain what problems you're experiencing or what you'd like to accomplish, and we'll help identify the most appropriate solutions. Many clients come to us with general goals rather than specific technical requirements.

Saturday installations can be arranged, though we charge a small premium for weekend work. Evening appointments are occasionally available by special arrangement. We're flexible when possible to accommodate your schedule.

Yes, we offer troubleshooting and support services for existing technology setups, even if we didn't perform the original installation. Contact us with details about the issue you're experiencing, and we'll let you know how we can help.

Privacy & Data Protection

When you contact us, we collect only the information necessary to respond to your enquiry and provide our services. We never share your details with third parties for marketing purposes, and we handle all client information in accordance with UK data protection regulations.

For complete details on how we handle your information, please review our Privacy Policy and GDPR pages.
